Asteron Life launches Heart Coach to support Cardiovascular Wellness

Asteron Life has launched Heart Coach, a new, personalised heart-health coaching service delivered through its acclaimed Connected Care programme.

Thursday, July 17th 2025

In a first for a New Zealand insurer, Asteron Life customers will be able to take charge of their cardiovascular health with tailored guidance, at no additional cost. The service is also available free of charge to the family members of eligible customers, which includes parents and in-laws.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in New Zealand, including heart, stroke and blood vessel disease.

Delivered in partnership with global health provider, Teladoc Health, Heart Coach compliments Asteron’s wider Connected Care services including complimentary online access to GP’s, specialist second opinions, mental-health support, nutrition and fitness guidance.

“Kiwi’s using the confidential service will have access to a Heart Coach – a specialist cardiac nurse who, working with information from their GP, will develop a tailored cardiovascular health and wellbeing plan for each individual. This is followed up with multiple check-ins with the assigned cardiac nurse, and through our partnership with Cardihab, access to a specialist cardiac health app for 12 months is provided, to support building healthy heart habits” says Mike Morris, Country Manager, Teladoc Health.

“Cardiovascular wellbeing is central to overall health, Heart Coach offers a proactive, supportive route to building heart healthy habits right alongside trusted insurance protection says, Grant Willis, CEO, Asteron Life.

“One in three deaths in New Zealand are caused by heart disease*. Heart Coach will give our customers and their families practical, expert support on their heart‑health journey. The addition of Heart Coach to our Connected Care offering underscores our commitment to delivering insurance that supports the lives of our customers by providing meaningful value and timely care when it matters,’ says Willis.

Heart Coach is offered fully independently through Teladoc Health and the Connected Care online platform so customers can be assured, information about their heart health remains fully confidential, and cannot be used or accessed by anyone, including Asteron Life.

Heart Coach is available to all customers with eligible in-force Asteron Life policies and their qualifying family members at no additional charge. Heart Coach will also be available to all AA Life customers, insured through Asteron Life, later this year.
