Every New Zealander seems to have a story about their fantastic property deal. It’s enough to make you feel as though bargain basement buys are lying around all over the place.

But spend any actual time in the market and you’ll soon find out how hard it is to secure the right property at the right price.

In February’s issue of NZ Property Investor magazine, our reporter set out how to uncover the secrets to the perfect purchase.

Some of the tips she received were to sign up for market data, to be in the market you are interested in every day, and to never muck real estate agents around.

Those tips might sound straight-forward but, as our reporter discovered, there’s much more to getting that perfect deal.
