Meetings on seismic policy

A series of public meetings are to be held across the country as part of consultation on the Government’s earthquake-prone building policy.

Wednesday, January 09th 2013

It has proposed that all commercial and apartment buildings will be assessed for their seismic capacity within the next five years.

Owners would then have another 10 years to strengthen or demolish buildings that were not up to standard.

The first public meeting will be held on February 5 in Wellington.  The last will be held on February 26 in Hawkes Bay.

An online questionnaire is available until early March.
