$36m and climbing

The bill for the controversial new Waitakere City civic centre at Henderson Valley Rd is climbing.

But the council is still confident it will meet its budget - despite not knowing what the final cost will be.

The council has signed up west Auckland firm Canam Construction to build the centre for $36.3 million plus GST.

The figure covers the cost of the building only and public affairs manager Dai Bindoff says more bills will follow.
