Twin city complex developers heartened

A group of businessmen wanting to build a giant retail complex between Hastings and Napier say they are heartened by the support for their proposal.

Monday, April 26th 2004

The group, Regional Solutions, has been consulting retailers and other groups about plans to build a 45,000-square-metre complex northwest of Links Rd, alongside the Hastings-Napier expressway, between 2008 and 2012.

Backers of the project say a big regional retail complex is the best way to attract big retailers to Hawke's Bay.

Hastings District Council and Napier City Council have developed retail strategies which propose rezoning land within the city for "big-box" development.

Both councils want the retail centres to remain in their cities.
