Hotel chain appeals against Franz township proposal

Scenic Circle Hotels has appealed against the decision allowing a new building zone north of Franz Josef Glacier village – 3km from the group's hotel.

Wednesday, August 18th 2004

The Westland District Council last month agreed to change the district plan for a proposed township, the Franz Alpine Resort, at Stony Creek.

Scenic Circle waited until the deadline on Wednesday to appeal against the decision. It will now go to the Environment Court.

The hotel chain lodged a further appeal against a second plan change that would allow a mixed residential-commercial subdivision at the northern end of Franz Josef.
