James Hardie forecasts slowdown

Building materials company James Hardie Industries says it expects a solid full year result but warned of the expected slowdown in new housing activity in the North American, Australian and New Zealand markets...

James Hardie chief executive Peter Macdonald sound a note of caution about the domestic and New Zealand new housing activity market and the possibility of lower North American housing starts over 2004.

"In Australia and New Zealand, the renovations segment is expected to remain relatively healthy over the short term, but new housing activity in Australia is expected to be softer over the same period."
