Warning of big rise in council user charges next year

Auckland City Council user charges are likely to leap again next year, hitting the poor hard, says councillor Dr Bruce Hucker.

Saturday, October 11th 2003

A report to the council's finance corporate and business committee forecasts that while rates will be held constant with an increase of 2 per cent, the case for a higher uniform annual general charge (UAGC) should be investigated.

It is proposed that the $110 waste charge will increase to $125, and the $150 UAGC will "significantly increase," says Mr Hucker.
