Splitting the profits

VICKI HOLDER meets an entrepreneurial couple with an interest in footing your renovation bill.

Sunday, September 28th 2003

It sounds almost too good to be true - a company that provides instant cash for your home renovation so you can maximise your property’s value when selling.

While they’re hoping to split the balance of your profit with you, Immediate Solutions guarantees to fetch a price for your home that is at least that of the original valuation. If there are no buyers, they undertake to buy the house themselves.

Ian and Frances Preston, of Immediate Solutions, have been promoting their innovative service for around six months and they’ve been astounded at the response. Initially they thought it would appeal to upwardly mobile young people looking to move on fast. Instead, they’ve come across some really desperate situations involving people who had nowhere else to look. While some people had unrealistic expectations about what the Prestons could provide and have been turned down, about eight groups across Auckland - from Manurewa to Whangaparaoa - have taken them up on the offer so far. The Prestons expect to do about 25 renovations before Christmas.
