Housing bonanza biggest in 20 years

Analysis by the Herald shows that the annual rate of house price increases, adjusted for inflation, is faster now than it has been since the short, sharp peak of the early 1980s.

But the duration of this growth period still has a long way to go to match the 1990s.

Houses are selling faster and for more than they ever have as the real estate market fizzes, underpinned by the solid foundations of population growth and low interest rates.
