Rumblings over Eastern Corridor

Most people in the eastern suburbs fear the Eastern Corridor is inevitable but nobody wants it in their backyard.

Monday, September 22nd 2003

With the official release of the options for the alignment of the Eastern Corridor this week, many Pakuranga and Farm Cove residents are alarmed to learn they could have the major arterial running through their properties.

Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis says the options have not been released to cause alarm but rather because legally they have to be. He says people should not panic.

"The legal process requires that all technically feasible options be explored at this time and released to the public for consultation and feedback. Inevitably the matter will end up before the Environment Court and we have to be able to prove that we have explored and discounted every other option."
