Wanting tenant's details?

Upinder asks:
(updated on Thursday, July 11th 2013)

My property manager has offered a tenancy lease to a couple but has only provided me with their first names rather than there full names. Also I have not been provided their servicing address and contact details. I would like to have the full details. Is this allowed?

Our Experts Answer:

The Residential Tenancies Act 1986 (the Act) covers the relationship between a landlord (including an agent of a landlord) and a tenant(s). It does not cover the relationship between a property owner and their property manager. I suggest that you discuss your concerns with your property manager, or the principal of the property management company. You may wish to seek independent legal advice regarding any concerns relating to your arrangement with your property manager. For information and advice about issues between a landlord and tenant you can call 0800 TENANCY (0800 836 262) between 8.00am-5.30pm Monday to Friday to speak to a member of our Tenancy Advice Team.
