Re-Clad or Re-Think?

I had someone come out and look at my property for piece of mind and we have being told to re-clad as it’s the only way to fix the building, even though I feel that we have no proof what the damage actually is, just that it is leaky. A re-clad is costing us our savings and a new mortgage and I just want to make sure is this our only option?

Our Experts Answer:

A re-clad should never be considered the only option. For some people it is the best option but for most it is a costly experience that leaves them with the same problems they faced prior to a re-clad. The first thing that I would recommend is that you find out more about what damage you are actually facing and ask for more proof such as moisture levels, timber damage and timber strength and if your weathertightness/building inspector is falling short in answering these questions then I recommend you look elsewhere to have them answered.

We have many people come to us saying that they have to re-clad because they have been told to but after looking at what is actually happening in the walls, using the Mdu Probe System we often find that repairs can be targeted and that there are many more options than a re-clad. As a re-clad would cost you your savings and a new mortgage I recommend that finding out what is happening in your walls and what your other options are.
