We want to do a one-off credit check for a prospective tenant. We had been told that we could pay a small fee to do so however the agency I have contacted has told me we need to subscribe for a full year. Can you give me a name of a company that I can use for this one-off check?

I recommend that you join your local property investors’ association. You can find your local association via the NZ Property Investors’ Federation at http://www.nzpif.org.nz. Among the membership benefits you can get access to credit check facilities through Tenancy Information New Zealand. Also, you may like to try Veda Advantage. I suggest you look at the company’s Web site on www.veda.co.nz. Be aware that you need your prospective tenant’s permission before you carry out any checks on their personal information.
