Council buyout in flood territory

A number of flood affected residents in the Henderson Valley area could be bought out by Christmas.

Tuesday, August 31st 2004

At least 20 families were evacuated from their homes in May after the Opanuku Stream broke its banks.

Water rose to waist level in some places and took several hours to subside.

The area has had a long history of flooding and the Waitakere City Council has since met with affected residents to discuss their options.

The Western Leader understands the council could buy up to 15 properties as a result.
