Leaseholders take land fight to PM

The Waitara Leaseholders Association is meeting Prime Minister Helen Clark today to discuss the future of the Waitara leasehold lands.

Monday, June 21st 2004

Association chairperson Jonathan Marshall said he had arranged to speak to Miss Clark this afternoon in Wellington.

The association is challenging the New Plymouth District Council's decision to sell 146ha of leasehold land to the Crown for use in a treaty settlement with Te Atiawa.

The association has also made an official information request to obtain a valuation report from the council.

The council had received the report from TelferYoung, which said the market value for the leasehold land was $3.9 million.
